چکیده
This article examines the changing role of ‘confessional technologies’ (Foucault 1990) over history HIV pandemic, beginning when US public health departments first rolled out testing campaigns and continuing in present day through expansion diagnostic practices to support development implementation pharmaceutical technologies for prevention. Across this decades-long history, have been shaped by ethical principles, legal mandates, research priorities, which compelled individual who is ‘at risk’ acquiring speak about their sexual thus reveal hidden truths one’s self an intimate Other (Whitacre 2018). Indeed, ethics long focused on confession as a means disciplining safe sex managing pleasure (Race 2007) relied these techniques secure resources survival (Nguyen 2010). I argue that confessions recently become productive generate evidence efficacy pharmaceuticals. Practices revealing truth contributed clinical interventions, including use antiretrovirals oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Considering contemporary enabling drug products facilitating market growth, contend confessing should be understood form labour.

INTRODUCTION Although most patients wish to be fully informed about bad news such as a diagnosis of cancer, a significant minority prefer no or minimal information. We examined the value of asking patients about their disclosure preferences at the outset of hospitalization. METHODS Consecutive patients admitted to a respiratory and a geriatric unit were asked whether and how they would wish t...

In the relatively short time frame since the introduction of next generation sequencing, it has become a method of choice for complex genomic research studies. As a paradigm shifting technology, we are now witnessing its translation into clinical diagnostic laboratories for patient care. Multi-gene panels for a variety of disorders are now available in several clinical laboratories based on tar...

The development, evaluation, and implementation of new and improved diagnostics have been identified as critical needs by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and tuberculosis researchers and clinicians alike. These needs exist in international and domestic settings and in adult and pediatric populations. Experts in tuberculosis and HIV care, researchers, healthcare providers, public health exper...
متن کاملDiagnostics in cancer drug development.
The effective use of diagnostics is a central component of optimal cancer patient management. Diagnostics can be divided into clinical imaging and sample analysis in the laboratory. The latter can be split into assays for specific molecules and more holistic measurements of RNA, protein or modified structures. Drug developers are increasingly turning to sophisticated diagnostic technologies to ...
